I have a question regarding pronouncing the medd which is the "Ye" medd with a kasrah before it. When I try to pronounce this, the sound is coming from the nose instead of purely from the mouth. I am having trouble fixing my pronunciation of this. Do you have any tips for practising or for ridding myself of this error?

In addition when I try to pronounce the "Ye" medd with a kasrah before it, I notice that I am pronouncing it from the throat, since when I pronounce it there is a pull in my throat. Could you also give tips for practising or how to fix this error?

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

This is not an uncommon mistake.  The easiest way we know of to rid yourself of it is using the articulation point of the voweled -meaning the middle of the tongue and what lies opposite to it from the roof of the mouth, and put pressure on it while also using the empty space in the throat and mouth for the lengthened .  This will help focus the sound forward instead of out through the nose. 

Another way to get the feeling of when sound is coming out through your nose is to purposely make the come out with a ghunnah (through your nose), then after that, pronounce it without one.  Keep alternating between the two for five times, and that should help you to learn to control the air flow out through the mouth instead of the nose.

The way to remove the feeling of a “pull” in your throat is to relax and let the sound come out without exaggerated effort.  If you let the sound just come out naturally and make sure you lower your jaw with it and put some pressure on the articulation point of the , there should be no pulling on the throat and insha’ Allah no ghunnah.
