Question

Assalamu alaikum

I have been instructed to read the the huruf maqatta'aad at the beginning of surah shura as one and not to stop after haa meem. I notice that Dr. Basfor also reads it as one aayah. Could you give me more information about this? Shukran.  Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmat Allahi wa barakaatuhu

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullah.

There is a difference of opinion among Qur’an scholars as to whether  is one aayah or two aayaat.  Some then read the aayaat together as one and others as two separate aayaat.  Some shuyookh instruct their students to read the aayaat both ways, together and separately, to demonstrate both ways of reading the two aayaat. .
