Question
I
had seen the phrase “weak letters” for “huroof al-‘eillah,”
referring to the letters alif, wow, and ya’, and I commonly use that phrase.
What do you think of that phrase?
Answer
First
of all, we would like to give our apologies for missing the second part of
your question in the recent post on your query about medd letters.
The letters alif,
, and
, in any of their states,
voweled, saakinah leeniyyah, or saakinah meddiyyah, are indeed
and
you are correct in its usage. The
group of
as
stated above covers the three letters in any of its states while the medd
letter group is more specific; the three letters must be saakinah and preceded
by either a fat-h (as in the case of an alif) or a kasrah (in the case of a
) or a dhammah (in the case of
a
).
