Question
As Salamu Alaykum:
May ALLAH reward you for your good work.
My question is:
If a tarqeeq letter if followed by a saakin tafkheem letter, will the tarqeeq
letter sound heavier?
When I was listening to various qaris it seemed to me that:
the noon in the 3.word of 1st ayah of al-nasr (110) ,
, sounds heavier than the one in the last
word of 5th ayah of al-fatihah (1),
.
Please clarify the situation.
Jazakum ALLAHu Khairan
Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa
barakatuh.
May Allah reward you and all Muslims for
all their righteous deeds.
The letter that has tarqeeq should not be
affected by a tafkheem letter next to it, whether before or after. This of
course means if the rule is that of tarqeeq, then there should be be tarqeeq
of the letter. We know though, in the rules of the
that the
saakinah
rule can be affected by a letter of tafkheem following it, but if the rule of
is tarqeeq, it should be read with tarqeeq, and
if the rule is tafkheem, it should be read with tafkheem.
The letter
with a fat-h in any one letter
combination, should sound the same as any other letter
with a different letter combination.
Imam Al-Jazaree pointed to this very important rule in his poem famously known
as al-Jazariyyah:
,
meaning "the utterance in its parallel should be like it". This means that
all of the letter
with a fat-h should
sound like all other letter
with a
fat-h.
Students of the Qur'an, when first
practicing tafkheem often have the problem of either putting tafkheem on the
preceding letter, or when trying hard not to put tafkheem on the preceding
letter, put imaalah on it instead. This is especially noticeable with a
fat-h.
Experienced students, and masters of
recitation do not usually make this mistake.
Wa iyyakum wa-l-muslimeen.
