Question
Assalaamu
alaikum. I have a small question about a word like
.
The question is if I stop
on this word (or any that ends in two noons) it will sound as though
there is only one noon. Is there a special way of
stopping on this word ?
May Allah reward you.
Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa
rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.
Stopping and continuing
this word should sound the same as far as the length of ghunnah (nasalization)
on the letter
.
The shaddah on the
is
not dropped when we stop on this word, only the vowel, which in this case is a
fat-h. The
shaddah is what indicates there are two of the letter
.
We therefore should hear an equal length of ghunnah when stopping and
continuing on this word. The
or
with
a shaddah on them have the longest most complete ghunnah of all the ranks of
ghunnah. This long ghunnah shows there is a
shaddah and therefore two of the letter (in this case a
).
The timing cannot be explained in counts, but must be learned from a certified
teacher of the Qur’an. See also
the lesson on the ranks of ghunnah in the tidbit archives.
And
may Allah reward you with the best of rewards.
