Question
Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatu lilahi wa barakatuh
My question is about the letter "ra" in surat Al Qadr
One of the takhfeem rules of the "ra" states that if the letter "ra" is
saakinah and the letter before the "ra" is also saakin and the letter
preceding that saakin letter bears a fatha then the "ra" should be read with
takhfeem. Therefore, and as the perfect example, is the "ra" in the five
verses of surat Al Qadr (surah 97) read with takhfeem when stopping at each
verse and not when continuing?
Jazakumulahu khairan.
Wa salamu aleikum wa rahmatulilahi wa barakatuh.
Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Yes, because all of the end of the aayaat in surah al-Qadr
end in a
with a
kasrah, when continuing the
is read with tarqeeq,
and when stopping all the ra’aat are preceded by a sukoon which is preceded
by a fath, so when stopping these aayaat are all read with tafkheem of the
. So you are correct,
and it is not uncommon that this surah is used for an exam question on
tafkheem and tarqeeq of the
.
Wa iyaakum.
