Question

Assalaam alaikum,

Please help me with the following questions:

1) - The word "annajmuth-thaaqib" is in the beginning of third ayah in surah
At-Tariq. Should this be included in the list of words that start with
Hamzatul Wasl, recently posted on your website?

2) - In the middle of ayah #45 of surah Al-Anbiya, there is a word
"bilwahye". How this word is pronounced if we stop on it? I know the
vowel on the letter Ya drops out, but does Ya becomes saakinah along with
sakin letter Ha? If so, how much of Ya should be articulated? If
possible, please include a sound bite link in your response so the
proper articulation can be heard.

3) - In the copy of Qur'an I use, sometimes just more than one waqf sign
is written in the middle or even at the end of an ayah. Why is it so?
Are these inputs from different scholars?

4) - Are you planning to put a feature in the website that will allow us to search
archived material by topic?

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

1. In the aayah The hamzah wasl in both words in this aayah are for the definite article “the”, , which we always begin with a fathah if starting the word.  We did not include words starting with  because of their vast number in the Qur’an and the familiarity by most that they begin with a fathah.  This was mentioned in the PDF download.

2. When stopping on the word  there will be two saakin letters pronounced, which takes practice to perfect.  Each letter should be pronounced with its full characteristics and timing for a saakin letter.  In this case, the  is pronounced with the running of sound and breath, then the  with no vowel, but running of the sound.  Please click here to listen to this word being read while stopping.

3. As you suspected, there are differences of opinions among the scholars as to the kind of stop a particular stop is, and some copies of the Qur’an have markings that reflect the different opinions. 

4. There is a search engine of the site on the lower half of the home page, but the problem with it is that many times visitors spell transliterated words differently that was used on the site, or a graphic for the Arabic word was used instead of English transliteration.  The visitor then may not find the word he/she is looking for.
