Question (29 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Mar.13, 2002)

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

Thank you very much for your help in reading the Holy Qur'an, the words of Allah, glory be to Him. I would like to have clarification regarding the reading of hamza bearing fat'ha tanwiin when we stop on that hamza. I have heard two different specialists lengthening the fat'ha, as "  "  (Sura Al-Baqara, Verse 22). I can understand why the vowel is lengthened in similar endings with fat'ha tanwiin involving other letters, as in "  " or " ," because in those cases there is alif after the tanwin. But there is no alif after the hamza. So why does the lengthening still take place with hamza? Should it be understood that there is a hidden alif after the hamza or is it just a special case, because hamza itself is, in many, cases interchanged with alif? Your input will be highly appreciated. Thank you again for using your valuable time in helping. Wassalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

Question (21 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Mar.5, 2002)

Assalamu Alaikum.  I wish to know if there is any hadith regarding the handling or reciting of the Qur'an in an impure physical state e.g.. women during her period. I would appreciate, if you could state the hadith.

Please note that it is of great importance that you state clearly in which hadith book and hadith number it can be found as regarding this matter.

I need these details to clarify some misunderstanding with a Muslim sister. Thank-you.

Wassalam

Insha Allah you can help with a question I have;  I am trying to find an example of a noon saakinah that appears at the end of a noun as it says in the definition for the noon saakinah.  It's easy to find one for verbs ending that way but a noun escapes me! Question (19 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Mar.3, 2002)

Assalamualikum !
Some student of tajweed asked a question on 3-01-02, about tafkheem/tarqeeq on letter Ra in the last ayah of surat ul Alif-Lam-Meem Sajdah. Your explanation suggested that since the letter Ra is sakinah, and the letter preceding Ra bears a kasrah, this Ra should be pronounced with tarqeeq. So far so good. My confusion comes from the example you gave, i.e., word . In the word , the letter that follows sakinah Ra is a mutbaqah letter (Saad). Would this have any bearing on the rule of tajweed at hand, and the Ra should be pronounced with Tafkheem? Please explain.

May Allah reward you for teaching us.

Question (17 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Mar.1, 2002)

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.  Could you please clarify for me if the ra saakinah here in the 4th word would have heaviness or lightness;  because of the heavy letter, before it, does it then have heaviness even though there is a kesra before the ra? Jazakumu Allahu khairan.

As per your explanation of tafkheem, there are two schools for the levels of tafkheem.  Could you please tell me which school of tafkheem is followed in the recitation on your Online Qur'an Reciter link? May Allah reward you.

Question (13 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Feb. 25, 2002)

This is a question about the nabir; it is mentioned in your lessons that the nabir is used in the circumstance of the  which has a shaddah on it (doubled) and  is preceded by a letter that has a kesra or a fath - in the situation in the ayah here from Surah al Baqarah the first word has such a  with a shaddah but preceded by a dhammah.  The question is: does that mean that we do not apply the accent in this situation?  Is it because it could not be mistaken for a medd or a leen when hearing the length of the doubled letter? Jazakumu Allahu bi kulli khair!

Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they mock at those who believe. But those who obey Allāh's Orders and keep away from what He has forbidden, will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allāh gives (of His Bounty, Blessings, Favours, Honours, etc. on the Day of Resurrection) to whom He wills without limit. (translation of the interpretation of the meaning).

Assalaamu alaikum.  When pronouncing the letter  what would you recommend to someone who has problems making the sound of the   with a sukoon "run"; sometimes it's fine and sometimes it sort of sticks.  Would you have any idea why that would be?  Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you and may Allah reward you.

Question (5 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Feb. 17, 2002)

Salaam,

1. I just want to confirm that tajweed was the spoken language of the prophet and the Arabic speaking world at that time when the Qur'an was revealed to guide mankind?

2. Classical Arabic is the equivalent to tajweed and that tajweed is not a later innovation to how the Qur'an was revealed, recited and understood?

3. Lastly, when the companions addressed the prophet by his first name they pronounced his name as Muhammadun and not Muhammad?  Allahu Akbar is properly pronounced Allahu Akbaru

4. Is classical Arabic the spoken language at that time.  Your answers will be a great help in my studies.

Question(1 Dhul Hajjah 1422/ Feb. 13, 2002)

May Allah reward those who help us in our Islam and so may He, Great and Generous is He, reward you greatly.    While reading surah 16,  An-Nahl, I had to stop on the word " "; is that right that there would be an accent on the   because of two  with a sukoon or is that 3  's?

The translation of the explanation of the meaning is:

And Allāh puts forward (another) example of two men, one of them dumb, who has no power over anything (disbeliever), and he is a burden to his master, whichever way he directs him, he brings no good. Is such a man equal to one (believer in the Islāmic Monotheism) who commands justice, and is himself on a Straight Path?
