Question (21 Rabee' Ath-Thanee 1425/June 9, 2004)

Assalaamu 'alaikum,

In the riwaayah of Shu'bah how does one practically pronounce the ishmam in Kahf verse 2: min ladnihi?

Is it a qalqalah with ishmaam or is there no qalqalah at all?

This word occurs again later in the Surah and I think there are two ways of pronouncing it in the tareeq of Shaatibiyyah: ikhtilaas and ishmaam. Can you elaborate please.

Thanks for your time

Assalamu Aleikum wa rahmatu lilahi wa barakatu

I have noticed in surat Al Baqarah verse 245 "... wa yab suttu..." ,   there is a small Siin above the letter Sad. My questions are:
1. Why is it so?
2. When reading, do we read the letter Siin instead of the letter Sad?

Question (14 Rabee' Ath-Thanee 1425/June 2, 2004)

Assalamu alaykum

Jazakallahu khayran for your wonderful site.

In the section on hamza wasl (part 3) you mention 5 words (in six ayaat) where hamza has a kasra if starting on them due to the presented dhammah. I understand this rule, but why is 'ittaqu' (to fear) different to the above 5 verbs. It also has a kasra for amr but is not included in your examples - is it because of the shaddah or is it not a presented dhammah or some other rule.

Question (12 Rabee' Ath-Thanee 1425/May 31, 2004)

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakaatuh

With summer almost here, I am wondering if you would have some advice for students of the Qur'an who will have some free time while traveling (by air especially), waiting at airports, on long flights etc... as to how we could insha Allah make use of that time in spite of noise and distractions...

-and also as regards the time away from home as to how to keep up reading/memorisation?

Jazaakumu Allahu bi kulli khair.

Question (12 Rabee' Ath-Thanee 1425/May 31, 2004)

Assalam U Alikum,

When we read the prayers silently (be it dua, sunnah prayers, nafl, witr, etc…), do we still have to embody the tajweed rules?  For example, do we have to apply the tajweed rules when we sit in salaa’h and start reciting “At tahhiyatu lillahi…”?

May Allah bless you, and please make dua for me inshaAllah,

Jazak Allah

Assalamu Aleikum
Since the lessons about the Mudood (lengthening) are really important, would you happen to have on your site any audio sample on lengthening a word to 2, 4, (or 5), and 6 vowel counts?
May Allah reward you inshallah.

Asalaam u Alykum,

I wondered  if there is any site from which I can review the scripts of the 7 different qirats of the Quran. I am very interested in studying the differences.

May allah Bless this Kidmat you perform.

Question (1 Rabee' Ath-Thanee 1425/May 20, 2004)

Assalamu Aleikum

1-In all the places that I have been praying, especially in my country (West Africa) and in some mosques in the U.S. , I have noticed that when praying aloud (such as the isha prayer for example) the Basmallah is often read in a low voice and the Fatihat aloud. Why is it so? Is this method part of a type of recitation (Warsh-Hafs or As Soosy)?

2- What does it mean when someone has ijaazah in recitation? And how can I have ijaazah in recitation?

May Allah reward you inshallah.

Ma Salam
