Question
assalamu alaykum. if i recite the words separately without joining them like reciting: "innaa a'taynaaka al-kawthar" instead of "innaa a'taynaakal-kawthar" is it allowed?
Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh
No it isn't allowed and is a major mistake.  If a student is new at reciting and doesn't know the way of joining words together someone should explain to them, let them listen to the recitation of a mastered sheikh, and help them practice and correct the error.
As long as the student isn't doing it on purpose and is trying to fix it, he/she will get ajr for their attempts in sha' Allah..
