Assalaamu Alaykum,

In the Indo-Pak script, the word in Surah Rum Ayat 54, "Dha'fin" translated as weakness, has a Dhammah with a line on first letter "Dhaad" instead of a "Fathah", but it is not like a normal "Dhammah" because it has a line on top of it. So is it pronounced "Dhu'fin" then in this script? And is there a specific qiraat or turuq in which "Dha'fin" here is pronounced "Dhu'fin"? It cannot be a mistake in the writing of the script because it appears like this more than once. The specific Mushaf was printed in Mecca by Dr. Jameel Arrahaman Abdus Salaam. Also, in the Arabic language, both "Dha'fin" and "Dhu'fin" are words with the same meaning.

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

The riwaayah of Hafs has two allowed ways of reading  the word in its three occurences in aayah 54 of surah Ar-Rum:

The first allowed way is with a fathah on the and the second allowed way is with a dhammah on the .  Shu'bah and Hamzah also read it with a fathah only.  The rest of the qira'aat by the way of Shatibiyyah and Ad-Durrah read this word only one way and that is with a dhammah on the .   So the fact that there are both a dhamm and a fathah written reflects both allowed ways for Hafs in this aayah.  We must read all three occurences with either the fat-hah or the dhammah, we cannot read one with a fathah, for example, and the other two with a dhammah.
