Question
asalaam u alaikum..i read the topic about maqtoo' and mausool in the Quran.so i want to know that the places where there is a difference of opinion with regards to maqtoo' or masool, depending upon the copy of the Quran from which the recitor is reading, if a person stops on one of the two words of a maqtoo' letter(which is masool in other copy of the Quran) ,will that be a mistake??

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,
When there is a difference between the different copies of the Qur'an for the known word combinations written either as  or or with one or the other in different copies of the Qu'ran, we must follow the rasm or writing of the Qur'an we are reading from.  It would be a mistake to read it other than what was written.
The difference is one from the early copies of the Qur'an, where some of the scribes wrote word combinations together or separately.
It isn't that scholars differ as to how the words are written, instead it is a difference in the early copies of the Qur'an and we study and learn how they are written and only stop as it is written.

Wa assalaam alaikum.
