Question
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
In surah al Anbiya ayah 88, there is a small noon above the word after wa kathaalika. How should we read that word?

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,
The word in the phrase, , has only one written in the 'Uthmani rasm of the mushaf.
This is a word in which some of the different qira'aat read it with two , and others with only one.  The mushaaf was then written with only one and a small written in by later scholars for those reading in the qira'aat which use two.  In the riwaayah of Hafs, we read the word with two , and thus the small one is written in the copies of the Qur'an meant for reading the way of Hafs.
