Question
Bismi Allahi assalaam alaykoum
Question:is it possible to read "maliki yawm addin" (without the med after the meem "maftouhah")instead of " maaliki yawm addin " in surah al Faatihah, for Hafs 'an 'Aasim by the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah.

When we read surah al Faatiha (with the tajweed rules for Hafs 'an 'Aasim by the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah), is it possible to read "maliki yawm addin" (without the med after the meem "maftouhah")instead of " maaliki yawm addin "?
jazaka Allahou khayran assalam alaykoum.

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
The riwaayah of Hafs 'an 'Aasim by the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah and even in the the ways of At-Tayyibah reads the word in aayah 4 of surah Al-Faatihah, exclusively with an alif.  To read it without the alif would be making a mistake in the riwaayah and is not allowed.  There are in the different qira'aat many who read the word without the alif, but we have to keep each qira'aah separate in rules, as each has an authentic chain going back to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, in its entirety. We cannot pick and choose when reading as the chains of the riwaayaat and qira'aat are specific for each special word, and each rule.
Wa iyyaakum.
