Question
Assalamu alaikum

I have a question regarding the ishmam of the dhamma and kasra that is found in many qiraat. I have been reading with a mixed dhamma/kasra sound for the entire madd (for example the word seee'u in ayah 76 of surah hud). But I find that some reciters read with the ishmaam in the beginning and read the end with a pure kasra. What is the correct way of reading this, are both acceptable?

Jazakum allah khaira

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Most read with the dhammah at the beginning then switch over to the kasrah, with two distinct sounding vowels one after the other.  It is also allowed and acceptable to read with a mixed sound of the dhammah and kasrah throughout the vowel.  This is done by keeping the inside of the mouth pronouncing a ya', while the lips are shaped in a dhammah.  The resultant sound is a mix of dhammah and kasrah.

Wa iyyaakum.
Wa assalam alaikum
