Question
assalamu alaikkum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu i read at your site the answer about madd munfasil being pulled 2 counts and what you have to keep in mind while doing that what i want to know is that the way of reading hafs an asim required it to pull four or five counts is it not? and i would like to know the difference between tareeq ash shatibiyyah and tareeq at-tayyibah Answer Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, Hafs 'an 'Aasim has many authentic turuq from tareeq At-Tayyibah, which is well documented in An-Nashr by Imam Ibn Al-Jazaree. The tareeq of Ash-Shaatibiyyah is one of these turuq outline in At-Tayyibah. The tareeq of Ash-Shaatibiyyah is by far the most famous way of reading of all the turuq of Hafs and all the qira'aat in the world today. This however doesn't mean the other authentic turuq of Hafs and the authentic qira'aat are not valid ways of recitation. Hafs 'an 'Aasim by the way of Shaatibiyyah lengthens and 4 or 5 vowel counts with the condition that they are equal to each other, meaning either both are 4 or both are 5 vowel counts when we recite this way. Hafs 'an 'Aasim has different possible lengths in tareeq at-Tayyibah and the way we outlined is for two vowel counts for and four vowel counts for . In conclusion, tareeq Ash-Shaatibiyyah is part of tareeq At-Tayyibah and tareeq At-Tayyibah is much more vast than tareeq Ash-Shaatibiyyah, but all ways are valid and have authentic chains going back to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him.
