Question
Salam alaikum. I would love to learn some alternative qiraat other than the one of Hafs, but I am not even close to being proficient in Hafs. Is it  recommended to start with another one or should one perfect Hafs first? And how do you go about it if you cant attend lessons with a sheikh, is there anywhere online where one can learn different qiraat? Thank you very much, May Allah bless you.

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
One needs a sound foundation before adding any type of extra floors to a building, and the same holds true for one seeking knowledge.  We have to strengthen the basics and make them firm before taking advanced studies or we will be lost and confused.
Sometimes we want things to happen quickly, as we have this tendency as human beings, but if we want strong, firm knowledge which we can then pass on to others, we have to be very proficient in one way of reading before moving on and learning another.
We recommend that you learn all the rules and apply them for Hafs, and much better yet memorize the whole Qur'an and get an ijaazah in the riwaayah of Hafs, then go on and learn the qira'aat.  Yes, it takes time, but you won't regret have a strong base of knowledge before adding on to that knowledge.  It will make you a better teacher and a better student insha' Alalh. Once you reach this stage, you will find a way insha' Allah to learn the Qira'aat.
May Allah bless you also.
