Question
Salaam Alaikum, teachers of abouttajweed.com! During studying the lesson of Hamzah al-Wasl, I met a confusion. In this link: http://www.abouttajweed.com/hamzah-al-wasl/hamzah-al-wasl-lesson-3.html Let's look at the first Example cited from the Holy Qur'aan. In aayah 44 of Surah Ma'ida, according to what u said, the Hamzah al-Wasl herein should read as a dhammah coz the 3rd letter of this word brings a dhammah. But when I listen to some mp3 recitations, I don’t find a Qari recites in such way, instead, they often skip the Hamzah al-Wasl, just as "bimaa stuhafithu min..." Then u said "we only use the hamzah al-wasl when starting the word. If we are reading in continuum with the words before this verb, we would drop the hamzah al-wasl and join directly the vowel on the last letter". So according to my understanding, it means that if the reciter chooses to stop at the letter before a Hamzah al-Wasl (if he or she doesn’t break the rule of al-Waqf), then he or she starts at the hamzah al-Wasl, under this condition, the reciter should use this rule and changes the Hamzah al-Wasl into a kasrah or dhammah. If the reciter chooses to read the word with Hamzah al-Wasl after reading the word before it, without a stop, it's unnecessary for him or her to pronounce the hamzah al-wasl according to this rule. So in aayah 44 of Surah Ma'ida, one can read as "wa al-ahbaaru bimaa" then take a stop, and then read "ustuhafithu min..." or read "wa al-ahbaaru bimaa stuhafithu min..." directly. Is it right? Forgive me speaking so much and making this problem complicated. If u can offer the mp3 of this aayah, under this rule, it will be clearly for me. Thx. Jazak Allahu Khairun! Answer Wa Alaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, The general rule for Hamzah Al-Wasl is that it is only used when starting the word. In case of joining the word containing Hamzah Al-Wasl with the previous word, the Hamzah Al-Wasl is always dropped. The aayah that is in question from Surah al-Maa’idah, . If we are starting on the word We apologize, we cannot make an MP3 because we know of no recording in which the reciter stops before, then starts up on Wa Jazakum Allahu Khairan Wassalam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah |
