Question

Assalam Alaikum

I have converted to Islam. I need types of learning material for the Qur'an. In English and then into Arabic. I need to start out like a child. This way I can learn the proper way. It is like a baby. They listen first ...then they say it...Then learn & then learn the meaning of the words. This is how I need to learn. I have no one to help me. I live in a place where there are no Muslims. Insha' Allah, I will learn, but I need some help. I pray someone can help me. In the name of Allah I will do this...if it takes me until I die. Insha' Allah. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

First of all, we congratulate you on your conversion to Islam and admire your determined attitude to learn the Qur'an.  We ask Allah to make it easy for you and make you of those who read the Qur'an as it was revealed to the Messenger, , and that is easy for Allah to do.

There are many things available to you through the Internet, many without any fee.

At the front page of this site, there is a link to www.reciter.org ; this site has the whole Qur'an recited by different reciters and you can listen to each aayah up to seven times.  The problem is, the numbers and surah names are in Arabic, but within a short time, insha' Allah, you will be able to select the surah names and be able to listen to them read aayah by aayah.

There are sites that teach how to read Arabic and downloads that will help you greatly.  These are almost all free of charge.

There are some excellent downloads are at http://www.fatwa-online.com/downloads/dow002/index.htm .  They have the first and second year Arabic course taught at the Medinah Unviersity for non-Arabs, besides Arabic for beginner including the alphabet.

There are a few other sites that we found that have the Arabic letters, http://islam.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.islam101 , and http://www.arabic2000.com/arabic/alphabet.html

If there is any other way we can be of assistance, please contact us again.

You are most welcome.
