Question

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahamtullahi Barakatuh,

Respected teachers,

I have a question regarding the reading of the little 'seen' that appears in the Qur'an (4 times). According to Hafs (by way of Shatibiyyah), is it permissible to make idgham instead of the breathless pause ? For example ... instead of "Qeela mann (pause) raaaaq..." can we read "Qeela marraaaaq..." ? But, if read with the pause, how long should this last ?

Finally, with your permission I would like to ask one more question.
Most of the pakistani Qurra recite with Hafs, but if asked "...with which tareeq ?" .. They simply say Hafs, and if asked about the different turuq in general, some even refuse to accept this and say that there is only one method of Hafs ‘an Asim. Would you happen to
know with which tareeq they recite generally ?

Jazakallah

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

In Hafs by the way (tareeq) of Ash-Shaatibiyyah, these four saktaat are required and it is not allowed to make idgham of the  saakinah in the aayah: .   The pause should last a short period time less than the time we take to stop and take a breath normally.

The common tareeqof reciting Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim around the world is tareeq Ash-Shaatibiyyah.  It is possible they are not aware of the other turuq since it is a somewhat more specialized study and not known to many Muslims.

Wa iyyaakum. Wa assalaam alaium.
