The definition of idghaam, or merging is: The meeting of a non-voweled
letter with a voweled letter so that the two letters become one emphasized
letter of the second type. The word “emphasized” is the translation of
mushaddadah, or one having a shaddah. There
is no “extra” meem, the first meem has merged into the second, and the
second has acquired a shaddah because of this.
